Using organic and sulfate free shampoos, soaps, lotions and sunscreens make a huge difference in creating a healthy environment in our homes and boats. All products used on our skin are absorbed into our system and if toxic can create a toxic overload causing allergies, illness, or rashes. The same products down a drain eventually make their way into our waters or waste treatment plants. Chemical laden products are extremely harmful to our fragile reef systems. When we slather on conventional sunscreens and then go snorkeling or diving, or use shampoos and soaps on board that are dumped overboard these chemicals are creating toxic fish and ecosystems.

When you use organic, biodegradable, reef friendly products you can be certain of:
  • No Dangerous overboard spills
  • Healthier for you
  • Not toxic to breathe, touch or smell
  • Just as effective
  • Not toxic for environment
  • Responsible consumer choice

Background Information on Ingredients in So-Called "Natural" BodyCare Products

It's easy to find good products at drugstores, grocery stores or big box stores too. I find products more affordable in bulk at organic food stores. In the product section of this page I have listed a few retail products to try.

Look for labels that say sulfate free, 100% organic, reef friendly, biodegradable.
It's good to have both natural sources listed below and purchased body care products around just in case.

Here are some home recipes ideas to get started:

While cruising use what's available. If you have papaya's or avocado's make a face mask. If it's lemon, use it as astringent, if you find palm oil, use it all over! Most fruits and some veggies make great additions to a recipe. You'll smell great too!
