Why wind power?

Wind power is a great supplement to using solar power. Any time we can spend less time using our engines or generators the more sustainable our lives become. Using a wind turbine to generate electricity allows sailors to be even more self-sufficient and less dependent on fossil fuels which is good for our oceans and our planet.

The benefits of Wind Power

  • Renewable energy source
  • Works day and night
  • Clean energy
  • Less dependence on fossil fuels
  • Less Environmental Impact
  • Great in conjunction with solar panels
  • Takes up less space than solar panels

How does it work?

Wind turns a turbine which convert this kinetic energy into electricity. Wind turbines range in size from the ability to produce 1 watt to over 500 watts. They can be noisy so do your research and make sure you understand how and where they will be placed. Wind turbines are quite effective at their wind range of usually 10-15 knots. Use a charge controller to protect your batteries from over charge.
